Thurs. July 19 Second Day, forests and trees in Oregon

Lots of trees and open road. Some repairs were being done,  some slow spots. But for the rest good timing. For some reason we did not make reservations this time.. not a good idea for this location, our destination Bend Oregon.. We should have learned from 10 years ago when we drove into this area and we grabbed the first motel, because of all the street tie ups and redoing of pavement. Lesson learned but not early enough.
Amazing views of Mt. Lassen, it was very smokey there also..
Lunch at the Chalet, nice folks and nice atmosphere. She told us they are open every day of the year. So I asked how high the snow gets, and she said last year was not too bad, but usually 18-20 ft. No wonder their lakes are so full of water.  Had plans to stop in La Pine at the Quilt store and with all the traffic, missed that. So on to Bend.. another mistake, what a zoo, round abouts all over, cars all over. We stopped at one hotel and no room at the Inn. Gave us another suggestion, so we started to call from our car.. No luck,  we went up the road to Redmond and found a Comfort Suites.. ok, not the price we wanted to pay, but a roof over our heads. AND tomorrow we will back track a bit and go to Sisters. So all is not lost. I checked and they open at 9.  Never go to Bend without reservations.. And the other thing we learned.. find the road that had all the motels that are not listed in Auto Club. We could have found a place there..
Our electronics on the car took us all over Bend, and all we wanted to do was find HWY 97 Out, I am glad we are relearning these lessons early.. Tomorrow The Plan is to go to Sisters..  There will be plenty of Quilt Stores in the rest of the States, we will just pass on Bend.. oh darn! PS everyone seemed to be having fun on the river, variety of water sports.
We packed our little car to the hilt, but finding items is sometimes a little difficult, but organized. We did have a plan.  Had Pizza locally here in Redmond, and getting caught up, and we will just relax.
Our house sitter said she is watering down the Llamas since it is so hot there.  And they are loving it.
Behind our room, is this amazing canal with rushing water, so in the end we did have a view of water, cool clear water. Air is cooling off also.. Remember you can always write some comments or email me. If you have ideas of what we could see on the way.. tomorrow we start up the state more and going to the little edge of Washington.. looks a bit confusing on the map. Just a road at a time.
