We live in an amazing country, miles and miles of open land, as stark as it is it is beautiful. I don't think I would have had the drive to go by covered wagon across to Calif.. Day after day walking or riding on a buck board.. It looks romantic in the movies, but in truth, it must have taken a certain kind of person to take up the challenge. Not to know where you were going to stop, where your next meal would come from, or the months of eating beans and a few caught rabbits. The challenges of weather.. It looks so beautiful and serene, when we stopped. Not a breeze to be felt. We chatted with a couple that had stopped at this rest stop. They were from New Jersey, and just traveling and seeing the country.
It is nice to have these rest stops with the history markers for travelers to read.What could be said by these lands, to feel the same breezes that have blown for centuries. We were blessed with wonderful weather and a sense of peace. Can you imagine this in the middle of winter?
