Fresno Art Hop

My husband and I had a wonderful fun trip on this Trolley, around Fresno City area.  It left from the Historic Water Tower.   Our docent was very well informed and pointed out all the sites.
We visited the Downtown area, Tower District, and actually drove down the middle of Fulton Mall, where he explained and gave us the names and history of the beautiful art work.

The Water Tower, on Fresno Street, is an art gallery, showing art from local artists, but also is a Visitors Center that has brochures to share from the area. One that we picked up was a Walking Tour of the Fresno Mall. You would be amazed at all the sculptures and the history of the art work.

After the tour we went over to Chris Sorensen's ( Metal Sculpture) Studio, and open house. It was Chris's birthday along with a fund raiser for the Mariposa Arts. Many artists donated pieces for this special showing.  The Mariposa Art Center and many other buildings  burned to the ground recently.  It was devastating to lose so many businesses, and all the art work.

Mariposa is a small western town on the way to Yosemite, besides the tangible losses, many jobs were lost... and those can not be replaced easily. But they are trying and the Art Center will soon open at another location.

Photo above is painted on the side of Chris's studio, and the view below is of the side of his warehouse and the variety of graffiti... Who says Graffiti isn't beautiful...

Chris's building is along the railroad tracks, but no train in sight when I took the photo.

We were returning home when Ralph saw this great pair of statues on a side road.. The one hidden in the shadow is of Kennedy... I am sure there is a wonderful story to this. Maybe it will be on the tour next year..
